Parts of Arizona, particularly the north and Maricopa County have poor soil conditions. These areas are unsuitable for the installation of conventional septic tanks that cannot meet conventional percolation requirements. In most cases the only solution for these properties is installation of a shallow drip field with pre-treatment using an ATU. The Arizona code gives variances on set-backs and reduction of dispersal field when using an ATU which removes nutrients. State and county regulators, recognizing the benefits of advanced, require the use of ATU’s in these areas.
